The Weight of words
I wanted to do a series about traffic—its movement, sound, and chaos. The idea stemmed from my constant desire to challenge my observations of everyday life. I began by setting my camera on a tripod, capturing the passing vehicles. Soon, I realised my eye started to ignore the obvious, the surface layer of mere traffic. This was when the series began to evolve. Rather than seeing cars and trucks, I started seeing words floating past—a travelling visual dialogue. Messages bombarded my mind, only to disappear as quickly as they’d appeared. I knew then that I had stumbled upon something both playful and disturbing. By stripping these words from the vehicles, I could expose the stark reality of our constant, intense exposure to messages, hidden within the chaos.
